JOSHW.HS1.WEBJoshua Warren, MAOM, L.Ac, Dipl. Ac, graduated from Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, NC with his Master’s in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2017. Joshua’s education centered on the Classical roots of Chinese medicine, challenging him to develop a medical practice that readily calls for investigation into the deeper aspects of disease, and historical perspectives surrounding them. He uses these perspectives in his practice to develop malleable and adaptable treatments strategies to meet old diseases with new names.

According to his training, Joshua considers the human body to be a dynamic phenomenon requiring an intricate interplay of factors to maintain its harmony. The use of not simply Acupuncture, but also Chinese herbal medicine, the burning of moxa over the body, tui na massage, daoyin movement therapy and dietary treatment plan converge to attempt to mirror how the body comes to know and express itself. In the process of dis-ease, Joshua believes these modalities can fill what is empty and empty what is full, restoring balance within the individual, and returning to them their own individual and innate wholeness.

Joshua came upon the medicine in pursuit of his own health in 2011. A series of unsuccessful career pursuits left him confused and directionless, until a close friend suggested seeking out an Acupuncturist. After doing so, and reading some foundational literature on Chinese medicine, he realized the philosophy and mission of the medicine fell deeply in line with his inspiration and passion for meaning. He now believes the body to be the perfect metaphor where philosophy and substance meet, and true alchemy comes to find definition within wellbeing.

Joshua owes much of his appreciation for the medicine to Master Jeffrey Yuen, an 88th generation Daoist priest who lectured twice a semester throughout his master’s studies. This Daoist-based approach continues to inform Joshua’s medical emphasis on observation without judgment, as well as his emphasis on returning power and accountability to the individual.

Joshua recently relocated to Washington, DC where he has accepted an Acupuncturist position at The Well wellness center in Mount Pleasant. He has absolutely fallen in love with the city and its people and looks forward to the learning and challenges that private practice will offer. In his spare time he enjoys drawing, hiking, drinking coffee and discussing astrology with friends and strangers.
